The new contactor groups are adaptable to all 3600 Engines except those mounted with more than a two degree front downward angle. To adapt this change to an earlier engine, there are two options available.
1. Repair the oil pan if possible.2. A new oil pan can be installed.If the oil pan can be salvaged, the Reference contains detailed instructions to repair a leaky oil pan. If the oil pan requires replacement, use the information in this article to install a new oil pan assembly and make the necessary changes.

To install a new oil pan assembly on an earlier engine, use the following points to determine which components are required. Chart B lists the cylinder that must be used to install the improved 9Y9927 Oil Filler Group on an earlier engine.
- If the engine contains the former oil pan and 1W0799 Oil Filler Group (not serviced), an improved 9Y9927 Oil Filler Group must be used with the new oil pan assembly.- If the engine contains the former oil pan and former 9Y9927 Oil Filler Group, install Items 4, 7, and 9 as shown in Chart C and Illustration 3. Although several changes have been made to the former 9Y9927 Oil Filler Group, the part number for the improved group has not changed. The difference between the improved and the former 9Y9927 Oil Filler Group is shown in Chart C. Chart C also shows the parts used in the former 1W0799 Oil Filler Group (not canceled).

To adapt this change to an earlier engine, a new contactor group and fuel priming pump line must also be installed. Three new contactor groups are used which contain the same components except for the tube assembly. Chart D identifies the three different tube assemblies, model usage, and the contactor groups. Chart E lists the parts that are typical for the three contactor groups. Illustrations 4 and 5 show the locations of the parts listed in Chart E.

When installing a new oil pan assembly on 3606 and 3608 Engines equipped with left hand service, install a new 4P2298 Tube Assembly (36) in place of the former 7C6915 Tube Assembly used in the 1W0822 Fuel Priming Pump Group. The former tube assembly could cause interference to the oil filter group. See Illustration 6.
