Products: AllWhen you install Duo-Cone Seals, make sure that the following conditions exist:
All parts of the seal are clean and make sure that there is no dust, lint, or grease on the seal.
No oil is on the rubber toric, the seal ring ramps, or the housing ramps.
The correct installation tool is used.
The seal is correctly seated. The seal must have the same projection 360° around within 1 mm (0.04 inch). Refer to the illustration. The height gage is included.
If small adjustments are necessary, do not push directly on seal ring (1). Use installation tool (2) to push downward or use adjustment tool (3) to pull upward. Refer to the illustration. The adjustment tools are included.
Both seal faces are cleaned and oiled before assembly.
The rubber toric is wetted with isopropyl alcohol. The isopropyl alcohol must contain at least 99% isopropyl alcohol.Note: Isopropyl alcohol requires a minimum of ten minutes drying time prior to assembly. Drying time can be reduced by using filtered compressed air with less than 70 kPa (10 psi) to force dry the seal area.Note: All safety and disposal guidelines must be followed for flammable liquids.For further information, refer to the following documents: Special Instructions, SEHS8364, "Assembly and Installation of Conventional Duo-Cone Seals", Special Instructions, SEHS8484, "Tool and Specifications" and Special Instructions, SEHS8758, "Assembly and Installation of Duo-Cone Track Idler Seals with 'L' Shaped Sealing Ring Cross-Section".The life of the seal depends on the correct installation.
