Information:
Be sure no one is working on or near the machine to prevent injury. Keep the machine under control at all times to prevent injury.Reduce engine speed when maneuvering in tight quarters or when breaking over a rise.Select the travel speed range necessary before starting downgrade. Do not change travel speed ranges while going downhill.A good practice is to use the same travel speed range going downgrade that would be used to go up the grade. When traveling any distance, engage the swing lock pin. Keep the stick in and carry the boom in a low position. When starting up a steep grade or breaking over a rise, keep the boom lowered as close to the ground as possible. When traveling uphill, or on a slope, keep the boom on the uphill side of the machine.1. Adjust the operator's seat.2. Fasten the seat belt. 3. Turn the engine speed dial to the operating range.4. Move the hydraulic control activation lever to the UNLOCKED position. 5. Raise the boom enough to provide sufficient ground clearance. 6. Select the desired travel speed by operating the travel speed control switch.7. Make sure the position of the upper structure in relation to the undercarriage is known before moving the machine. Drive sprockets should be to the rear of the machine. The directional and steering controls will operate normally if the drive sprockets are to the rear and the idlers are to the front, under the cab. When the cab is over the sprockets, the travel controls will operate backwards.8. Turn the engine speed dial to increase the engine speed (rpm) to the desired speed.9. Push both control levers forward at the same time to travel forward. The farther both levers are pushed forward, the faster the travel speed at the set engine speed (rpm). If the machine does not operate or travel in a straight line, contact your Caterpillar dealer.10. To make spot and pivot turns, refer to the Machine Controls section of this manual.11. When making turns in soft material, travel in a forward direction occasionally to clear the tracks.12. Slowly move both travel levers or pedals to the center position to stop the machine.Changing Direction
Directional changes at full engine speed are possible. However, for operator comfort and maximum service life of power train components, decelerating and/or braking is recommended. If the travel alarm (if equipped) does not sound when traveling, contact your Caterpillar dealer. 1. Slowly move both travel levers/pedals rearward until the STOP position is reached and the machine stops.2. Then move both travel levers/pedals rearward from the STOP position. The farther rearward the travel levers/pedals are moved the faster the travel speed at the set engine rpm.3. Slowly move both travel levers/pedals to the STOP position to stop the machine.Extending Track Roller Frames
This machine is equipped with adjustable track roller frames. For machine operation, use the fully extended track frames which will give the machine the best stability. For machine transportation, use the fully retracted track frames. For further details, see the Extending/Retracting
