Testing and Adjusting the Machine Travel Speed
Introduction
This test is designed to determine the machine travel speed.
Sudden movement of the machine or release of oil under pressure can cause serious injury to persons on or near the machine. To prevent possible injury, perform the procedure that follows before testing and adjusting the hydraulic system.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Required Tools
Tools are not required for this test procedure.Test Procedure for Machine Travel
Start the machine and run the engine at 2310 45 RPM at high idle.
Make sure that the vibratory system is OFF.
Make sure that the machine is in the HIGH SPEED range.
Time the machine in forward and reverse through a 30.5 m (100 ft) timing trap.Note: The machine must be at top speed through the entire timing trap.
The acceptable travel time is 8.5 .5 seconds. Also, the travel time in FORWARD and the travel time in REVERSE must be within 1 second of each other.Note: The acceptable travel time for the split drum is 12 1.5 seconds.Test Procedure for Automatic Vibration Control
Start the machine and run the engine at high idle.
Put the propel range switch in LOW.
Turn the automatic/manual vibration switch to the AUTOMATIC position.
Make sure that the engine is at full throttle.
Accelerate the machine slowly with the propel lever until the vibratory system is activated. Maintain this speed through the timing trap.
Time the machine in forward and reverse through a 30.5 m (100 ft) timing trap.Note: The machine must be at top speed through the entire timing trap.
The acceptable travel time is 45 1 seconds for 133 FT/MIN and 34 1 seconds for 176 FT/MIN.Adjusting Procedure
Check the following parameters if the travel speed is not correct.
Check the pump efficiency.
Check the charge relief valve setting.
Check the main relief valve setting.
Make sure that the machine is in the HIGH SPEED range.Note: The CB-534D only has adjustment screws on the rear propel motor. The CB-564D has adjustment screws on both the front and rear motors. The split drum has no further adjustment. You must verify which screw affects the speed range setting. Also, you should adjust both motors in equal amounts in order to maintain the torque balance on CB-564D.
Check the POR setting.
Check the efficiency of the propel motor.
