Flashing Software
Reference Special Instruction, REHS7428.Caterpillar Electronic Technician (Cat ET) contains the WinFlash program that is used to flash software into an ECM.Configuration files can be flashed with Cat ET or with VIMSpc. VIMSpc uses the Ethernet service port.The ECM is flashed to upgrade the software when the following has occurred:
Software is outdated or incorrect
An ECM is replaced

Note: This machine requires Software Enabled Attachment (SEA) to be installedReferenceSpecial Instruction, REHS1238.
Verify that the VIMS 3G software file (.fls file) is the most current and has the compatible configuration file (.cfg file).
Connect the data-link cable between the Communication Adapter II or III and the personal computer (PC) that is running Cat ET.
Connect the data-link cable between the Communication Adapter II or III and the machine diagnostic connector.
Connect the VIMS service cable between the VIMS service connector and the PC that is running Cat ET.
Load the software (.fls file) with WinFlash.
Load the config (.cfg file) with VIMSpc.
Enable the SEA using Cat ET (will need internet connection to get factory passwords).
Cycle the keyswitch (ON-OFF-ON) or cycle the disconnect switch.Note: If using the keyswitch to cycle power, wait for 2 minutes before turning keyswitch on.
