Start By:a. remove transmission **For removal of the transmission, refer to the Challenger 35, 45 and 55 Agricultural Tractors Power Train Disassembly & Assembly module, SENR8308. 1. Using Tool (A) remove snap ring (1) from piston (2) and remove tab washer (3). Repeat on remaining piston. 2. Remove bolt (4) holding planet gear group (5) to the transmission. 3. Remove planet gear group (5) and two washers (6) off pistons (2). 4. Remove ring gear (7) off planetary gear group (5). 5. Remove first planetary (8) off second planetary (9). 6. Drive spring pin (10) in planet shaft (11) and remove two thrust washers (12), needle bearing (13) and planet gear (14). Repeat this procedure on the five remaining gears. Assemble in the reverse order. Use a new spring pin (10) in each planet shaft that was disassembled. 7. Remove thrust bearing (15). 8. Remove sun gear (16). 9. Remove thrust bearing (17). 10. Using Tool (B) remove retaining ring (18) holding bearing retainer (19) in second planetary (9). 11. Remove bearing retainer (19), two thrust washers (20) and thrust bearing (21). 12. Drive spring pin (22) in planet shaft (23) and remove two thrust washers (24), two needle bearings (25) and planet gear (26). Repeat this procedure for the five remaining gears. Assemble in the reverse order. Use a new spring pin (22) in each planet shaft that was disassembled. 13. Remove thrust bearing (27). 14. Remove sun gear (28). 15. Remove thrust bearing (29). 16. Remove flange drive (30). 17. Remove thrust bearing (31). 18. Remove shims (32). Check bearing retainer (34) for wear or damage. If damaged remove 16 bolts (33) and remove bearing retainer (34).
Plug (35), piston (2) holds spring (36) under compression. To prevent possible personal injury use caution when plug (35) and piston (2) are removed.
19. Remove plug (35) and piston (2) and spring (36) from the transmission. Repeat this procedure on the remaining piston. The following steps are for the installation of the creeper drive.

20. Check O-ring seals (37), (38) and (39) for wear or damage and replace if necessary. Install spring (36), piston (2) and plug (35) in the transmission. Repeat this procedure on the remaining piston. 21. Using Tool (C) measure the distance from the top face of the seventh stage directional clutch assembly shaft down to the machined ground face of bearing retainer (34) as shown. Position shims (32) as required to obtain 35.535 to 35.687 mm (1.399 to 1.405 in) measurement. 22. Install thrust bearing (31). 23. Install flange drive (30). 24. Install thrust bearing (29). 25.
