Make sure the pin bores in the stick, the linkage assembly, and the bucket cylinder are clean and free of dirt prior to the installation of the bucket cylinder.
Note: Check the seals and the bearings in the pin bores of the bucket cylinder. If any of these components are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement.Note: The following story is for the V-Family bucket cylinder.

Fasten two lifting slings and a hoist to bucket cylinder (4). The weight of the bucket cylinder is 500 kg (1100 lb). Place the bucket cylinder in position in the stick. Lower the head end of the bucket cylinder into the brackets on top of the stick. Make sure that the pin bores in the stick are in alignment with the pin bores in the bucket cylinder. Also, make sure that the grease fitting in the head end and in the rod end of the bucket cylinder are facing away from the stick.
Apply a thin coat of 5P-0960 Molybdenum Grease on pin assembly (6). Use Tool (A) and temporarily install the spacer and pin assembly (6) .Note: Do not remove the hoist from the bucket cylinder at this time.

Slide bucket cylinder (4) to one side until the cylinder contacts the stick. Measure the total clearance between the bucket cylinder and the stick at the pin bore. The total clearance of (a) and (b) can not be more than 1.0 mm (0.04 inch). If the total clearance is less than 1.0 mm (0.04 inch), the addition of shims between the bucket cylinder and the stick will not be necessary. If the total clearance is more than 1.0 mm (0.04 inch), add the correct thickness of shims in order to obtain the necessary clearance.
If the shims need to be installed between the stick and the bucket cylinder, remove pin assembly (6) and the spacer. Install the shims between the stick and the bucket cylinder on the same side of the retaining bolt. Reinstall the spacer and use Tool (A) to install pin assembly (6). Install retaining bolt (5) and the washer that holds the pin assembly in position. Tighten retaining bolt (5) to a torque of 460 60 N m (340 45 lb ft).Note: Position the shims for W-Family on the opposite side of the retaining bolt for the head end of the bucket cylinder.Note: Shim the rod end of the bucket cylinder so that the maximum lateral clearance is 0.8 mm (0.03 inch). Mount the round shims on the side with the power link. The open shims should be mounted on the side with the idler link.
