Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Illustration 1 g01319419Note: Careful handling is required for fractured connecting rods. Fractured faces for the connecting rod and connecting rod cap should not be placed on any surface. The connecting rod and the connecting rod cap should be placed on the sides in order to prevent damage. When possible, the connecting rod and the connecting rod cap should be bolted together in order to prevent damage.
Install the upper half of connecting rod bearing (2) into connecting rod (1). Ensure that the bearing tab engages with the slot in connecting rod (1).
Apply clean engine oil on the surface of the upper half of connecting rod bearing (2).
Position connecting rod (1) and connecting rod bearing (2) on the crankshaft.
Install the lower half of connecting rod bearing (2) in corresponding connecting rod cap (3). Ensure that the bearing tab engages with the groove in connecting rod cap (3).
Apply clean engine oil on the surface of the lower half of connecting rod bearing (2).
Install connecting rod cap (3) on the corresponding connecting rod. Ensure that the numbers are on the same side.
Apply Tooling (A) to connecting rod cap bolts (4). Install connecting rod cap bolts (4). Tighten the connecting rod cap bolts to a torque of 130 7 N m (95 5 lb ft).
Place an index mark on each bolt head. Tighten each bolt for an additional 60 5 degrees (1/6 turn).
Repeat Steps 1 through 8 in order to install the remaining connecting rod bearings.
Install the suction bell assembly. End By:
Install the engine oil pan. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Oil Pan - Remove and Install".
