Start By:a. remove alternatorb. remove water pumpc. remove oil pan plated. remove crankshaft pulley 1. Remove bolts (3), belt tightener (2) and guard (1) from the timing gear cover. 2. Put tooling (A) in position under the cylinder block as shown.3. Remove the engine front support. See the topic, Remove Engine Front Support, in this module. 4. Remove two bolts (4), three bolts (7), the gasket and cover (5) from the timing gear plate.5. Remove bolts (8) and washers (6). Remove the bolt and nut (11) that holds bracket (10) to the transmission oil cooler and remove the bracket.6. Remove cover (9) from the timing gear plate. Remove the O-ring seal from the cover. 7. Remove two bolts (15), bolt (13) and the nut and bolt (14). Remove oil filler tube (12) from the engine. 8. Remove the bolts and belt tightener bracket (16) from the timing gear cover.9. Remove the bolts and alternator bracket (19) from the timing gear cover. Put identification marks on all the bolts and their location on timing gear cover (17) before they are removed.10. Remove all bolts (18) that hold timing gear cover (17) in place on the engine. Remove the timing gear cover and gasket from the engine. The following steps are for installation of the timing gear cover.11. Install a new gasket on the timing gear plate. Cut the gasket even with the bottom face of the cylinder block. Put 5H2471 Gasket Cement on the bottom of the gasket where it makes contact with the gasket for the oil pan. 12. Put timing gear cover (17) in position on the engine, and install the bolts that hold it. Tighten the two bolts at location (X) to a torque of 23 4 N m (17 3 lb ft).13. Put alternator bracket (19) in position on the timing gear cover, and install the bolts that hold it in place.14. Put belt tightener bracket (16) in position on the timing gear cover, and install the bolts that hold it in place.15. Put oil filler tube (12) in position on the timing gear cover, and install two bolts (15), bolt (13) and nut and bolt (14) that hold it in place.16. Put the O-ring seal and cover (9) in position on the timing gear plate. Install washers (6), bracket (10), bolts (8) and the bolt and nut (11).17. Put the gasket and cover (5) in position on the timing gear plate, and install two bolts (4) and three bolts (7) that hold it in place.18. Install the engine front support. See the topic, Install Engine Front Support, in this module.19. Remove tooling (A) from under the cylinder block.20.
