Illustration 1. Locations of the new parts for the production change.If desired, a modification can be made to the existing parts. This modification gives results similar to the production change without installation of the new manifolds.
1. Fabricate eight plates-two for each air cleaner group-to the dimensions given in Illustration 2.2. Remove the access covers, the primary elements, the fasteners and the secondary elements.3. Use two 1T822 Bolts and two fabricated plates to install each air cleaner housing as shown in Illustration 3. Do not tighten the bolts.4. Install the secondary elements and move the plates so that their holes are in alignment with the holes in the element and the holes in the manifolds. Tighten the 1T720 Bolts. Install eight S1591 Bolts through the secondary element and the manifold, and into the plate.5. Tighten the S1591 Bolts to 27 7 N m (20 5 lb ft).6. Tack weld the ends of the fabricated plates.7. Install the primary elements.8. Reset the air filter indicators.
