Information:
FLUID SPILLAGE CONTAINMENTCare must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to "TOOLS AND SHOP PRODUCT GUIDE, NENG2500", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
To prevent possible personal injury, make sure all cushion hitch components are completely lowered, the pressure from the hydraulic system is released and the engine has been shut off for a minimum of five minutes to be sure that the accumulator oil pressure is zero. The accumulator is filled with dry nitrogen. Do not loosen or remove the valve from the cap on top of the accumulator. A bleed screw at the bottom of the accumulator can be used to release any pressure that remains in the system.
At operating temperature, the hydraulic oil tank is hot and under pressure. Hot oil can cause burns. Remove the breather filter cap only when the engine is stopped and the breather filter cap is cool enough to touch. Slowly loosen the breather filter cap to release any pressure in the hydraulic tank. Be cautious of hot hydraulic oil when any lines are disconnected in the hydraulic system.
Put identification on all lines, hoses, wires and tubes for installation purposes. Cap and plug all lines, hoses and tubes to prevent foreign material from entering the system. Drain all fluids in a suitable container for storage or disposal. 1. Disconnect hose assemblies (1) from accumulators (2) to drain the oil from the accumulator. 2. Fasten Tooling (A) and a hoist on accumulator (2) as shown.3. Remove bolts (3), bracket (4) and accumulator (2) from the cushion hitch. The weight of the accumulator is 124 kg (273 lb).Install Accumulators (Cushion Hitch)
1. Fasten Tooling (A) and a hoist to accumulator (1) as shown. Put accumulator (1) in position on the cushion hitch and install the bracket and bolts (2) that hold it. 2. Inspect O-ring seal on hose (3) for wear or damage and make a replacement if necessary.3. Connect hoses (3) to accumulators (1). Refer to the Operation & Maintenance Manual for all fluid capacities and the proper filling procedures.Disassemble Accumulators (Cushion Hitch)
Refer to Disassembly & Assembly, RENR9714, 657G Wheel Tractor Scraper Machine Systems, Accumulator (Cushion-Hitch) - Disassemble for the correct disassembly procedure.Assemble Accumulators (Cushion Hitch)
