Sudden movement or accidental starting of the machine can cause personal injury or death to persons on or near the machine.To prevent personal injury or death, perform the following:Park the machine on a smooth, level surface.Lower the work tool to the ground and engage the parking brake.Stop the engine and remove the key.Block the wheels and install the steering frame lock.
Personal injury or death can result from machine articulation or movement.Machine frames can move and a person can be crushed.Connect the steering frame lock link between the front and rear frames before working on machine.
Personal injury or death can result if two persons are not used in the following procedure.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
This procedure will show how to reset the brake wear measuring gauge to zero when new brake discs have been installed.This procedure requires two people. One person must engage the service brakes and the other person must reset the brake wear indicator. Care must be taken when you perform this procedure. Oil leakage from the brake system may occur. Keep all other personnel away from the machine or in sight of the operator.Check Preparation
Park the machine on a level surface away from other equipment and other personnel and lower the implement to the ground. Place the transmission in NEUTRAL. Engage the parking brake and turn off the engine.
Install the steering lock and chock the wheels.
Start the engine in order to build brake system pressure.
Stop the engine. Allow the axle oil to settle before proceeding to the next step. Note: Keep the engine off when the brake indicator is being reset.
Loosen the hydraulic tank filler cap slowly to release pressure. Reset Procedure

Place a suitable container below the plug in order to collect oil leakage from the brake system.
Remove domed nut (3).
Press and hold the service brake pedal.

Push the indicator pin that is located in the indicator assembly (2) in until it stops. Position the sleeve (6) flush with the end of the indicator pin (2) to show zero wear.
Install domed nut (3).
Release the service brake pedal.
Clean up spilled oil.
Repeat this procedure for each service brake that has new brake discs have been installed.
