Caster Bushings
Bronze bushings with grease allow the casters to rotate with minimal friction. When the bushings become worn, the caster frames have excessive movement from side to side. To replace bushings, perform the following steps: 1. Block the frame so all wheels are off the ground.2. Support the wheel of the caster to be repaired.
Illustration 1743. Remove screw (2) and pin (3).4. Remove cylinder mounting plate (4) with cylinder attached. 5. Lower caster frame (1) and remove from outer sleeve. 6. Remove six roll pins (5), then drive out worn bushings. 7. Install new bushings by driving evenly with a hardwood block and hammer. Make sure the bushings bottom out against the outer sleeve. 8. Drill six 6.35 mm (0.250 in) holes in bronze bushing using outer sleeve holes as a guide.9. Install six roll pins. Make sure they do not protrude past the inside diameter of the bronze bushing.10. Install caster frame and cylinder mounting plate with cylinder attached. Align yoke of cylinder with ear in caster frame.11. Install pin and screw in cylinder yoke.
