(1) Depth gauge (2) Contact (3) Speed sensor
Apply a high strength 154-9731 Thread Lock Compound or 155-0695 Thread Lock Compound 15 to 23 mm (0.6 to 0.9 inch) from the tip of the sensor. Refer to Illustration 1 in order to set the depth of the sensor with the depth gauge. Use the 15 mm depth in order to set the correct depth. Both sensor (3) and the locknut should contact (2) the depth gauge. WHEN YOU ARE SETTING THE DEPTH OF THE LOCKNUTS, THE SEAL WASHER SHOULD NOT BE ON THE SENSOR. Lock the nuts together to a torque of 49 N m (36 lb ft). Use the depth gauge to verify that the depth is still correct.
Turn the sealing washer onto the sensor until the washer contacts the locking nuts.
Before you install the sensor in the motor, be sure that no oil is draining from the motor. If oil is draining, verify that you capped the case drain line for the motor and verify that you plugged the case drain line for the motor. Be sure to keep oil off of the connector end of the sensor while you install the sensor.
Install the sensor in the propel motor. Torque the speed sensor to 49 N m (36 lb ft).
Remove the 3E-3371 Receptacle Lock Wedge from the sensor harness Deutsch connector. Clean the connector with 4C-4079 Brake and Electrical Cleaner . Fill the cavity left by the lock with 151-1340 Dielectric Grease . Reinstall the lock. Wipe off any excess dielectric grease. Attach the 194-4906 Harness to the speed sensor. The twist lock should snap into position.
Remove the 3E-3368 Plug Lock Wedge from the machine harness Deutsch connector and fill the cavity left by the lock with dielectric grease. Replace the 102-8813 Interface Seal Connector on the Deutsch connector on the machine harness. Reinstall the plug lock wedge. Wipe off any excess dielectric grease.
Connect the sensor harness to the machine harness. If the harnesses require excessive force to snap together, remove some of the dielectric grease from the sensor harness. Excessive dielectric grease can cause the seals to push out of the connectors.
Reconnect the motor case drain lines.
