Movement of the machine could result in death or personal injury. Shut the 3208T (Engine B) diesel engine down. Tag the machine controls. Lock the main battery switch at OFF before starting work.
The rotating cutter could cause death or injury. Disengage the cutter clutch. Shut the 3412 cutter engine (Engine A) down. Tag the engine control before working on or near the cutter.
1. Close the cutter door.2. Shut off the engine.3. Switch the main disconnect OFF.4. Thoroughly clean around the hose ends and cylinder fittings.5. Remove two hoses (1). Cap or plug off immediately. Mark or identify for hoses for later assembly. 6. Remove retainer bolts (2).7. Remove cutter door cylinder (3). The following steps are for the installation of the cutter door cylinder.8. Remove the fittings from the old cylinder.9. Install the fittings on the new cylinder.10. Fully extend the cylinder. Drain any oil from the cylinder. Refill the cylinder through both fittings with ATF Type F Hydraulic Oil. Cap or plug until assembly.11. Move the cylinder into position on the cutter with the fittings up.12. Connect the two hoses.13. Install the retainer bolt at the head end of the cylinder.14. Switch the main disconnect ON.15. Start the 3208T (Engine B) diesel engine.16. Use the cutter door control to cycle the cylinder through at least three full cycles to bleed any air out of the system.17. Adjust the position of the cutter door cylinder.18. Shut the engine OFF.19. Switch the main disconnect OFF.20. Install the retainer bolt.Disassemble & Assemble Cutter Door Cylinder
Use care not to damage the surface of the rod, piston or interior of the tube assembly. Do not allow dirt to enter the cylinder before taking the piston out, or the piston, rod or tube assembly may be scratched.
1. Clamp the cylinder in a vise to prevent the cylinder from turning.2. Use a spanner wrench to remove the head. In some cases, remove the head cap by removing the head cap bolts. The third type of cylinder has internal locking method for removing and installing head. Refer to Step 21 for disassembly instruction.3. Remove the rod, piston and head from the tube.4. Clamp the rod end in a vise.
Be careful not to damage the rod end.
5. Remove the nuts from the rod.6. Slide the parts from the end of the rod.7. Remove all the seals and O-rings.8. Thoroughly clean all parts.9. Inspect all parts for scoring, scratches or nicks. Replace if necessary. The following steps are for the assembly of the hydraulic cylinder.10. Install a new wiper seal in the head or head cap.11. Install a new rod seal in the head cap. U-cup seals should have the lips facing away from the wiper seal.12. Install a new backup ring and O-ring on the head.13. Slip the head cap (if used) and head onto the rod.
Be careful not to damage the seals.
14. Install the O-ring in the piston and the piston seals on the piston. U-cup seals should have the lips facing towards the end
