Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Drain the cooling system. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant - Change".

Remove bolts (4) and the plates.
Remove bolts (2) and the spacers from adapter (3) .
Remove adapter (3) from air pipe (5) . Remove the O-ring seals from the air pipe. Remove gasket (6) from cover (1) .

Remove bolts (8) . Remove tube assembly (7) from cover (1) . Remove the retainer sleeve and the O-ring seal from the tube assembly.
Remove bolts (13) . Remove tube assembly (12) from cover (1) . Remove the retainer sleeve and the O-ring seal from the tube assembly.
Remove two bolts (10) and install Tooling (A) .
Attach a suitable lifting device to aftercooler core (9) . The weight of the aftercooler core is approximately14 kg (31 lb).
Remove remaining bolts (10) . Remove three bolts (11) from the back side of the base assembly.

Remove bolts (19) . Remove adapters (18) and O-ring seals (20) .
Remove cover (1) . Remove gasket (17) from the cover.
Remove aftercooler core (9) from base assembly (14) . Remove Tooling (A) .
Remove bolts (15) . Remove the O-ring seals from the bolts.
Remove base assembly (14) . Remove gasket (16) from the base assembly.
