3508B, 3512B, And 3516B Marine And Generator Set EnginesConfiguration and Monitoring System Parameters should be reviewed and programmed to reflect the customer requirements prior to initial engine startup.
CONFIGURATION PARAMETERS
The Configuration Parameters for "CRANK DURATION" and "MAX. NO OF CYCLES" must be reprogrammed, from the factory settings, before the engine will crank/start. For Marine, Marine Auxiliary, and Electric Power Generation (EPG) Switch Gear Conversion engines, the factory settings are "0" for these two parameters.
The programmed "0" prevents the Engine Control Module (ECM) from engaging the starting motors on these engines. EPG engines with Electronic Modular Control Panel (EMCP) II do not require reprogramming for these two parameters because the EMCPII controls the start/stop functions and these parameters are programmed from the EMCPII.
Configuration Parameters may be programmed using either the Electronic Technician (ET) service tool or the Electronic Control Analyzer Programmer (ECAP) service tool. If ET is used, select "configuration" from the "service" menu. If ECAP is used, select "read/change parameters". Refer to the appropriate service tool manual and appropriate Troubleshooting manual for your engine for additional information to program Configuration Parameters.
Some parameters may not be available on all applications. If a parameter is unavailable, the service tool will indicate "unavailable" when that parameter is selected. Both the Primary and Back-up ECM on marine engines should be programmed. Make sure "Air Shutoff", "Ether Control", and "Plt Hse EMS Status" parameters are ENABLED/ON if the engine is equipped with these attachments, and DISABLED/OFF if the engine is not equipped. The "Eng. Prelube Duration" must be programmed to a value other than "0" seconds if the engine is equipped with Prelube or the prelube motor will not cycle/run. If the engine is not equipped with Prelube, the parameter must be programmed to "0".
MONITORING SYSTEM PARAMETERS
A programmable Engine Monitoring System is provided on 3500B Engines. The ECM can monitor parameters and initiate action if a specific engine operating parameter exceeds an acceptable range. Three possible ECM actions may be available, , DERATE, and SHUTDOWN. All possible actions are not available for some parameters. An ET service tool is used to select which available ECM actions are desired. The ET service tool is also used to program the monitoring level and delay times for each desired action.
If the customer installation requires some or all of the Monitoring System Parameters to be set different than the factory settings, then the parameter must be reprogrammed with the ET service tool.3500B Engine Monitoring System Parameters must be programmed with an ET service tool. The ECAP service tool will NOT service 3500B Engine Monitoring System Parameters. To program the Monitoring System Parameters, select "monitoring" from the ET "service" menu. The ET screens provide guidance through the programming steps to select OFF//DERATE/SHUTDOWN options as available for the selected parameter. The ET screens also provide guidance for changing /DERATE/SHUTDOWN trip-points. Some parameters will require a "PASSWORD" to be programmed.
