Introduction
This instruction provides the installation procedure for adding scrapers to the final drive housing to prevent packing of material inside the drive wheel and around the brake rotor.In certain field conditions abrasive material sticks to the inside of the drive wheels and final drive hub. This packed material is carried past the brake caliper castings, causing wear on the back and sides of the calipers. When the wear becomes severe enough, a brake fluid leak in the calipers will occur causing a loss of braking effort. A FT2282 Welding Fixture Group (Brake Scraper Mounting Block) will be required for installation.Reference: Service ManualNecessary Parts
Installation Procedure
The drive wheels and belts have been removed from the tractor for photographic purposes. This installation procedure can be completed with the drive wheels installed or removed.1. Clean any dried mud and debris from the brake rotors, final drive hubs and the inside of the drive wheels. 2. Remove the rear drain plug from the final drive case. Install spacer assembly (1) from the FT2282 Welding Fixture Group.3. Remove paint from the area of the final drive case where the mounting block will be located. 4. Position 8R4746 Block (2) so the chamfer on the block is located closest to the tractor. Fasten the block to bracket (3) using two bolts located in the outside mounting holes. Bracket (3) has four mounting holes so that it can be used for both sides of the tractor. Use only the two outside holes when locating the block.5. Assemble bracket (3) to the spacer assembly with a nut. Tighten the nut until bracket (3) comes in contact with the face of the spacer.If block (2) comes in contact with the final drive case before bracket (3) makes contact with the face of the spacer, material will need to be removed from block (2).6. Rotate block (2) so the sides of the block are parallel with the edge of the final drive housing.7. Tack weld the bottom edge of block (2) to the tractor. Remove bracket (3). Tack weld the bottom of the block only. It may need to be relocated if there is insufficient clearance later. 8. The block face should be 19° 1° from the vertical. Adjust the angle if necessary. 9. Fasten support plate (4) to block (2) with four bolts and washers. Tighten the bolts until they are snug. Use 8R4747 Plate on the right hand side of the tractor and 8R4748 Plate on the left hand side. 10. Install scraper plate (5) with four bolts and washers. Tighten the bolts until they are snug. Use 8R4749 Plate on the right hand side of the tractor and 8R4903 Plate on the left hand side.
The drive wheel has been sectioned for photographic purposes.11. Adjust scraper plate (5) to obtain a 3 mm (.12") clearance with the inside face and inside diameter of the drive wheel. Make sure that there is also sufficient clearance with the inside rim bead, the brake rotor, and the flange of
