Machine ECM Event Code List
The following table lists the event codes that apply to the control system of the machine. The recommended response is listed. Use the Cat ET service tool to determine the event codes that are active or logged.
Table 2
Machine System Event Identifier (EID) Codes
EID Level Description Possible Cause / Recommended Response
E119 2 Low Fuel Level Possible Cause: Low fuel level in the tank, fuel line leakage, or fuel filter is plugged. Code becomes active 2 seconds after condition is detected.
Recommended Response: Check the fuel level in the tank. If the tank contains fuel, perform a diagnostic check on the "Fuel Filter Plugged" switch. If fuel usage is excessive, inspect the machine for fuel leakage and repair as needed.
E179 2 Alternator Not Charging Possible Cause: With an engine speed of greater than 600 RPM, the alternator gauge on the control panel is reading zero for more than 60 seconds.
Recommended Response: Use Cat ET to check for diagnostic codes related to the electrical generating system. Check for diagnostic codes related to a failure of the Machine CAN Data Link, as well.
E232 2 High Fuel / Water Separator Level Possible Cause: Event code occurs when the status of the Fuel/Water separator is recorded as full for more than 40 seconds.
Recommended Response: Drain the "Fuel/Water Separator" as soon as possible to bring separator level to normal.
E235 2 Low Hydraulic Oil Level Possible Cause: Data Link communication with the Switch Panel has not been established and the status of the hydraulic oil is low for greater than 2 seconds.
Recommended Response: Data Link communication with the Switch Panel is established and the status of the hydraulic oil is normal.
E236 2 Return Hydraulic Oil Filter Plugged Possible Cause: This event is active only when the machine is traveling and the oil temperature is greater than 50° C (122° F) for 10 seconds or more. The status of the capsule filter is also plugged.
Recommended Response: Replace the filter as soon as possible. If filter replacement is not convenient, stop machine travel until oil temperature is less than 50° C (122° F) for 180 seconds or more.
If a code is present after the filter is replaced, inspect the hydraulic lines for signs of severe bending or internal collapse.
E237 2 Machine Overload (Sensor Error) Possible Cause: The Boom cylinder Head Pressure is high.
Recommended Response: Reduce the load on the cylinder.
E237 3 Machine Overload Immediate Safe Shut Down of Machine is Required.
Possible Cause: The machine overload pressure threshold has been exceeded for more than 1 second.
Recommended Response: Reduce the load on the machine before shutting down machine. Inspect machine stress points.
E265 2 User Defined Shutdown Possible Cause: The inputs from the ground level shutdown switch to the Electronic Control Module (ECM) have changed states.
Recommended Response: The engine will shut down. No action necessary
E273 1 Security System Active Possible Cause: This code is active when an unauthorized key is used to try to start the engine. There is a 5 second debounce time before this code is
