Heavy Lift Solenoid connectionsThis diagnostic code is associated with the Heavy Lift Solenoid. The FMI 05 means that the Implement Control 2 ECM has detected that the resistance of the solenoid circuit is greater than 5000 ohms resulting in a below normal current. The Heavy Lift Solenoid is a 24 VDC solenoid that is controlled by a Implement Control 2 ECM ON/OFF driver output. The Heavy Lift Solenoid is energized by the ECM when the heavy lift enable button on the right joystick is depressed and certain machine conditions are correct. This solenoid can be overridden in Cat ET.Conditions that could cause this diagnostic code are listed below:
The energize circuit of the solenoid is open.
The return circuit of the solenoid is open.
The solenoid has failed.
The ECM has failed. This is unlikely. Before performing this procedure, inspect the harness connectors that are involved in the circuit. Poor connections can often be the cause of a problem in an electrical circuit. Verify that all connections in the circuit are clean, secure and in good condition. If a problem with a connection is found, correct the problem and verify that this diagnostic code is active before performing this procedure. Note: The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Ignore these created diagnostic codes and clear these diagnostic codes when the original diagnostic code has been corrected.Test Step 1. CHECK THE SOLENOID
Disconnect the solenoid from the machine harness.
At the machine harness connector for the solenoid, connect a jumper wire from contact 1 (wire G723-YL) to contact 2 (wire H808-WH).
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position. Do not start the engine.
Observe the status of the CID 0735 FMI 05 diagnostic code.Expected Result:The active diagnostic code changes from an FMI "05" to an FMI "06" diagnostic code as the jumper wire is installed. Results:
YES - The active diagnostic code changes from an FMI "05" to an FMI "06" diagnostic code when the jumper wire is installed. The solenoid has failed.Repair: The solenoid has failed. Repeat this Test Step "CHECK THE SOLENOID" in order to verify the solenoid failure. Replace the solenoid. Verify that the new solenoid corrects the problem.STOP
NO - The CID 0735 FMI 05 diagnostic code remains active. The jumper wire does not affect the status of the diagnostic code. The solenoid is correct. Proceed to Test Step 2.Test Step 2. CHECK THE CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the machine harness ECM connector J2 from the Implement Control 2 ECM.
The jumper wire that was installed in the previous test step remains in place.
At the machine harness connector J2 for the Implement Control 2 ECM, measure the resistance from contact J2-7 (wire G723-YL) to contact J2-4 (wire H808-WH).
While observing the multimeter resistance measurement, wiggle the machine harness connectors for the ECM. Gently pull on
