This Program can be administered either before or after a failure. In either case the decision whether to apply the Program is made by the dealer. When reporting the repair, use "PS8624" as the Part Number and "7755" as the Group Number. If administered before failure, use "56" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and use "T" as the SIMS Description Code. If administered after failure, use "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and use "Z" as the SIMS Description Code.
This Revised Service Letter replaces the March 26, 1996 Service Letter (Revised July 1996). Changes have been made to the TERMINATION DATE, Problem, Affected Product, Action Required, Service Claim Allowances, and Parts Disposition.

The inlet valve springs in the 1102751 and 1170070 Air Compressor Groups may have been subjected to water contamination. The water contamination may result in corrosion on the inlet valve spring surface. This corrosion can result in pits in the spring surface that can be initiation points for fatigue fractures of the spring. Not all compressors will suffer spring failures. The highest risk for failure is at low hours. If the compressor exceeds 1000 hours, the likelihood of a failure due to corrosion is minimal. Current air compressors are assembled with springs that have an anti-corrosive coating. Springs in the 7E8926 Head Kit also have the same coating.

Thoe following engines that may be in dealer inventory may be reworked as per the "Action Required" only if a new 1102751 or 1170070 Air Compressor has been installed.

1. Install new intake valve springs from the 7E8926 Head Kit into the cylinder head of the air compressor.2. Inspect the compressor for corrosion on the cylinder walls and in the intake parts of the cylinder head and replace the air compressor if corrosion is found. Pay special attention not to contaminate the compressor during the rework process.
3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 for all compressors in Parts Stock.Service Claim Allowances

Submit a separate claim for each 1102751 and 1170070 Compressor Groups reworked or removed from Parts Stock.
Allow one hour labor for each 1102751 and 1170070 Compressor Groups reworked or removed from Parts Stock.
