--------------- END SUPPLEMENT ---------------Reference: (IRM) UC85-23, September 26, 1985.Description of Change: New track rollers, designed specifically for use on excavators and/or front shovels, are used on the above machines. These rollers provide better value for excavators and front shovels than the former rollers. These rollers can also be installed as replacements on 205, 211, and 213 Excavators. See Chart B footnote.
Shaft - A straight, solid shaft, with a hole in each end for attaching the end collar, is used. The new shaft, which is fully round on the ends, will withstand greater loads, particularly in high impact applications, than the shaft on the former roller.
Shell - The roller shell is approximately 51 mm (2") smaller in diameter than the shell on the former roller. This is accomplished by replacing the thick bushing assemblies in the former track roller with thin steel-backed bronze bearings and a thicker wall in the roller shell. Steel-backed bronze bearings are pressed in the shell. The oil reservoir in the new rollers is provided in the shell and is filled through a hole located between the wear surfaces. This oil reservoir has approximately 30% more oil than the shaft reservoir in the former rollers.
Rebuilding by welding is not recommended because of potential bore distortion.
Comparison of new and former rollers. Bearing - A flanged, steel-backed bronze bearing replaces each bushing assembly used in the former rollers. This bronze is a bearing grade material which resists scoring.
End Collar - The end collar goes completely around the shaft and is connected to the shaft by a roll pin. A larger end collar-to-roller frame contact area reduces mounting bolt loosening in high impact applications.
Price - The price of the new rollers is about 26% less than the former rollers.
Adaptable To: The new rollers are first used on machines listed in Chart A. The new roller groups with new mounting hardware can be installed in place of the former rollers. Any quantity of new or former rollers can be intermixed even though the new rollers are smaller in diameter. This is because the new end collar design causes the shaft and roller to be positioned lower than it would be if the former design collar were used.
In addition to the larger end collar, the new rollers are identified by the oil fill hole near the center of the shell. See illustration. The new roller group number is stamped on later shells.
New low/high temperature seals are also available for the new track rollers. See Chart C.
Some minor trimming of the track guiding guards is required on all machines to accommodate the larger end collars. For all models, new guards (segmented or full length) that have already been modified are available. The guard part numbers did not change except for the full length guards on 235's. See Chart D. The spacers go between the mounting bolts and the guards. Mounting bolt torque remains at 1125 100 N m (820 75 lb ft).
For 215 Excavators, use the 5M2160
