Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Do not fill fuel filters with fuel before installing them. The fuel will not be filtered and could be contaminated. Contaminated fuel will cause accelerated wear to fuel system parts. The fuel system should be primed prior to starting the engine.

Open the right side access door.
Open drain valve (2) on the bottom of filter housing (1). Allow the water and the fuel to drain into a suitable container.
Remove filter housing (1) from the mounting base by using a strap type wrench.
Remove the old filter from the filter housing. Discard the old filter.
Clean the filter housing and install the new filter element inside the filter housing.
Install the filter housing back on the mounting base.
Close drain valve (2).
Prime the fuel system.Reference: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Fuel System - Prime" for the correct procedure.
Close the right side access door.
