Removal Procedure
Start By:
Remove the engine oil cooler. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Oil Cooler - Remove".
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Remove two bolts (2) that secure elbow assembly (1) to the bottom of oil pump (3) .
Remove five bolts (5) and elbow assembly (4) .

Remove O-ring seals (6) and (7) from elbow assemblies (1) and (4) .

Attach a hoist and a suitable lifting sling to oil pump (3), as shown.
Remove one bolt (8). The other two bolts that secure oil pump (3) to the oil pump drive were removed during the removal of the transmission oil cooler core.

Carefully move oil pump (3) forward until the pump shaft disengages from the pump drive.
Use a hoist to remove oil pump (3) from the engine. The weight of the oil pump is 63 kg (139 lb).

Remove O-ring seal (9) from oil pump drive (10) .
