Troubleshooting Test Steps Values Results
1. Inspect the Vibration Damper
A. Clean any debris from around the damper.
B. Check the vibration damper for damage.
C. Inspect the mounting bolts for damage and wear. Refer to the Disassembly and Assembly manual for additional information.
Vibration Damper
Result: The vibration damper and mounting bolts are OK.
Proceed to Test Step 2.
Result: The vibration damper and/or mounting bolts are NOT OK.
Repair: Repair or replace the vibration damper or mounting bolts.
If the problem is not resolved, proceed to Test Step 2.
2. Inspect the Engine Supports
A. Look for loose or broken mounts and brackets while you run the engine through the speed range.
B. Check the alignment of the engine and driven equipment.
Engine Supports
Result: The mounts and brackets are OK.
Proceed to Test Step 3.
Result: The mounts and/or brackets are NOT OK.
Repair: Repair or replace the mounts or brackets.
If the problem is not resolved, proceed to Test Step 3.
3. Check the Mounting and Alignment of the Driven Equipment
A. Inspect the mounting hardware for the driven equipment.
B. Inspect the alignment and the balance of the driven equipment.
C. Inspect the drive coupling between the engine and the driven equipment.
Driven Equipment
Result: The driven equipment and the alignment are OK.
Proceed to Test Step 4.
Result: The driven equipment and/or the alignment of the driven equipment are NOT OK.
Repair or replace the driven equipment components.
If the problem is not resolved, proceed to Test Step 4.
4. Check the Operation of the Engine
Engine Operation
Result: The engine is running rough or misfiring.
Repair: Refer to Troubleshooting, "Engine Misfires, Runs Rough, or Is Unstable" for additional information.
Verify that the repair eliminated the problem.
If the procedure did not correct the issue, contact your Cat dealer Technical Communicator (TC). For further assistance, your TC can confer with the Dealer Solutions Network (DSN).
