Personal injury can result from hot coolant, steam and alkali.At operating temperature, engine coolant is hot and under pressure. The radiator and all lines to heaters or the engine contain hot coolant or steam. Any contact can cause severe burns.Remove cooling system pressure cap slowly to relieve pressure only when engine is stopped and cooling system pressure cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.Do not attempt to tighten hose connections when the coolant is hot, the hose can come off causing burns.Cooling System Coolant Additive contains alkali. Avoid contact with skin and eyes.
When a Caterpillar Extended Life Coolant (ELC) is used, an extender must be added to the cooling system. See the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Maintenance Interval Schedule" for the proper service interval. The amount of extender is determined by the cooling system capacity.
Stop the engine and allow the engine to cool.

Open the cover. Remove the cooling system pressure cap slowly in order to relieve the pressure.
Drain some coolant from the radiator into a suitable container. This will allow space for additional cooling system coolant extender. Note: Discard drained fluids according to local regulations.
In order to add cooling system coolant extender, refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU6250, "Extended Life Coolant (ELC)". Refer to the table for the correct amount of Caterpillar Extended Life Coolant (ELC) Extender that is needed to be added to the cooling system.
Install the cooling system pressure cap. Close the cover.
