Install shims (1) and race (2) into the bearing bore of the right brake housing. Install the large O-ring for the right brake housing. Install the brake housing onto the differential housing.

Install differential carrier (3) back into the differential housing.

Install the outer race for the side bearing for the bevel gear (4) into tooling (A) .

Bolt tooling (A) onto the differential housing. Turn the adjusting wheel (5). Turn wheel (5) until there is no backlash and no pressure.Note: Rotate the pinion several times in order to ensure that the previous conditions are met. When this step is complete, use the locking bolt on tooling (A) in order to secure the adjusting wheel.

Install tooling (B) and tooling (C). Hold the pinion gear stationary. Move the bevel gear. Use tooling (C) in order to measure the backlash. The backlash should be 0.20 .05 mm (0.008 0.002 inch). Release the locking bolt on tooling (A). Rotate the center hub of tooling (A) in order to achieve the proper backlash. Once the proper backlash is achieved, tighten the locking bolt.Note: The backlash is critical to the performance of the machine. Perform this measurement several times in order to ensure accuracy.
Remove tooling (A), tooling (B), and tooling (C). Remove the bearing race from tooling (A) .

Use a depth gauge and a straight edge in order to determine dimension (I). Dimension (I) is the distance from the flange surface to the contact face of the race for the outer bearing.

Use a depth gauge and the same straight edge in order to determine dimension (II). Dimension (II) is the distance from the flange surface of the brake housing to the contact face of the bearing outer race.
Subtract dimension (II) from dimension (I) in order to determine dimension (III). Add 0.15 mm (0.006 inch) to dimension (III) in order to determine the required shim thickness.

Install proper shims (6) and bearing race (7) into the brake housing.End By:
