Remove Front Timing Gear Cover
preparatory steps: a) remove vibration damper and hubb) remove fuel priming pumpc) remove alternator1. Remove the alternator support bracket and belt adjustment bracket.2. Drain the oil filter housing. 3. Remove the oil filter housing left support bracket (1). Remove the oil filter housing oil outlet lines (2) and fuel priming pump linkage as a unit. 4. Remove the fuel drain line (3). Disconnect oil pressure gauge sensing line (4) from top of timing gear cover. 5. Remove the ten timing gear plate-to-timing gear housing mounting bolts (5).6. Remove the oil pan-to-timing gear cover mounting bolts. Loosen remaining oil pan mounting bolts. Raise the front of engine and install spacers between oil pan and cylinder block at front of cylinder block. Lower the engine.7. Remove all timing gear cover mounting bolts and nuts.8. Using lifting bracket (A), remove the front timing gear cover - weight 95 lbs. (43 kg).Install Front Timing Gear Cover
1. Install a new timing gear cover-to-timing gear plate gasket. Trim the gasket flush with pan face of cylinder block. If oil pan gasket was damaged during removal of timing gear cover, it will be necessary to remove the oil pan base in order to replace entire oil pan gasket.2. Lubricate the lip of the crankshaft front seal with clean SAE 30 oil. 3. Using lifting bracket (A) and a hoist, position the timing gear cover on engine. Install the timing gear cover-to-cylinder block retaining bolts and nuts. Install timing gear plate-to-cover retaining bolts.4. Raise the front of engine and remove spacers between oil pan and cylinder block. Lower the engine.5. Install oil pan-to-timing gear cover retaining bolts. Tighten remaining oil pan retaining bolts.6. Connect the oil pressure gauge sensing line to top of timing gear cover. Install fuel drain line.7. Install the oil filter housing oil outlet lines and fuel priming pump linkage as a unit.8. Install the oil filter housing left support bracket.9. Install the alternator support bracket and belt adjustment bracket.10. Check oil level in crankcase and fill as necessary.concluding steps: a) install alternatorb) install fuel priming pumpc) install vibration damper and hub
