The position of the rack (2) controls the amount of fuel that is injected into the cylinder. Pull the rack (2) out of the fuel injector for more fuel or push the rack (2) into the fuel injector for less fuel.The rack position is changed by the bellcrank (3). The bellcrank is moved by the control rod (4). The control rods have an adjustment screw on the top. The adjustment screw is used to synchronize the fuel injectors. The control rods are spring loaded. If one of the fuel injector racks is in a bind in the FUEL-ON position, it will still be possible for the governor to control the other racks. The other racks must be controlled by the governor so that the engine can be shutdown, as required. If the rack is in a bind in the FUEL-OFF position, the engine will not start. Each control rod is connected by a lever (8) to the control shaft (9) .Note: Directions of rotation are viewed from the flywheel end of the engine.When the actuator shaft (11) rotates in the counterclockwise direction, the shutoff cylinder (10) moves in the upward direction via lever (12). This rotates the fuel control shaft (13) and lever (5) in the clockwise direction via the lever (14). This clockwise rotation of the fuel control shaft (13) then moves the rack (2) in the FUEL-ON direction via the following components: fuel control rod (6), lever (8), control rod (4) and bellcrank (3) .The right fuel control shaft (9) and the left fuel control shaft are connected by fuel control rod (6) and fuel control rod (7). These fuel control rods are moved simultaneously by lever (5). The linkage between the fuel injectors on the left side of the engine and the control shaft is similar to the linkage on the right side.If the linkage becomes disconnected from the governor, the weight of the control linkage will move the fuel injector racks to the FUEL-OFF position. When the fuel injector racks move to the FUEL-OFF position, the engine will stop.
