0R2099, 0R2181, and 0R2183 Upgrade to New Remanufactured Cylinder Heads; and 7N9532 New Product Cylinder Heads in dealer Parts Stock may not meet the flatness requirements on the combustion and/or cover surfaces. Other remanufactured cylinder heads may consist of new castings. If any 0R0834, 0R1818, or 0R2083 Remanufactured Cylinder Heads look like new castings, check them for flatness also.
Action Required
Check the combustion face surface flatness. The guidelines for reusability, SEBF8162-06 Guideline For Reusable Parts And Salvage Operations, shows using a straight edge and feeler gage. Page 23 shows how to measure the surface. The total tolerance for this face is .011".
Suggestion: The cylinder head is approximately 4 feet long, so using a 2 foot straight edge the tolerance would be approximately .005". However, a longer straight edge will give a more precise measurement.The combustion face has been found to be convex so, holding the straight edge in the center of the head, measure flatness towards each end.
Check cover face for flatness. Use feeler gage again, but use a six inch scale as a straight edge. The blueprint tolerance for this face is .002" (0.05mm) per six inch increment.
Suspect heads were manufactured prior to December 1997.
Other remanufactured cylinder heads may consist of new castings. If any 0R0834, 0R1818, or 0R2083 Remanufactured Cylinder Heads look like new castings, check them for flatness also.
Service Claim Allowances
Submit one claim for all 0R0834, 0R1818, 0R2083, 0R2099, 0R2181, 0R2183, and 7N9532 Cylinder Heads removed from dealer parts stock.
Parts Disposition
All dealers are to make sure the outside of the shipping container is marked PI7401.
