Machine Shipping
For basic standard machine shipping specifications see "Specifications and Model Views" in the "General Section."
Remove ice, snow or other slippery material from shipping machine and loading dock, before loading the machine.
Always block the trailer or rail car wheels before loading the machine.Move the transmission control lever to NEUTRAL. Lower the three-point hitch.Engage the parking brake.Pull the governor control lever all the way back past the detent, to stop the engine. Turn the engine start switch to OFF-LOCKED and remove the key.Install tiedowns as shown in the illustrations in the topic "Machine Lifting and Tiedown" in this section. Block the drive belts front and rear.Do not fasten tiedowns to belt tensioner cylinder.Cover the engine exhaust opening to prevent turbocharger windmilling in transit.Comply with regulations governing weight, width and length of load.Contact your Caterpillar dealer for shipping instructions for your machine.
In freezing weather, protect the cooling system with antifreeze, to the lowest outside expected temperature on the travel route. Or, drain the cooling system completely.
Machine Roading
Check all fluid levels and idler pressures before traveling.Check the travel route for overpass clearances. Make sure there will be adequate clearance.Check and obey all local and all traffic regulations. Make sure the Three-Point Hitch Mode Switch is in the OPERATING MODE position. If roading with a mounted implement, use the adjustable depth stop to lock the control lever in the fully raised position.Machine Lifting and Tiedown
Improper lifting or tiedown will allow the load to shift and can cause injury or damage. The illustration below shows the correct lifting and tiedown hookups for this machine. Also see the next topic "Towing Information" for additional information.
1. Weight and instructions given here apply to machines as manufactured by Caterpillar Inc.Approximate weight = 14 000 kg (32,000 lbs).2. Use proper rated cables and slings for lifting. Position crane for level lift.3. Spreader bar width must be sufficient to prevent contact with the machine.4. Remove the frame mounted front step and the left handhold for lifting.5. On machines with three-point hitch, the hitch must be raised to the "maximum up" position for lifting.6. On machines not equipped with three-point hitch, the cables must be attached to the drawbar support at or on the outside of the outer pin holes.
