Install plug (10) in both ends of rocker shaft (11). Install the plug to a depth of 12.7 1.0 mm (0.50 0.04 inch) from the end of the shaft.

Install screw (9) and nut (8) on each of rocker arms (4).

Personal injury can result from parts and/or covers under spring pressure.Spring force will be released when covers are removed.Be prepared to hold spring loaded covers as the bolts are loosened.
Put the retainer, the original washer, and rocker arm (4) in position on one end of the rocker shaft. Put bracket assembly (5) in position on the shaft so the dowel hole in bracket assembly (5) is in alignment with the hole in the shaft.
Install dowel (1) that holds bracket assembly (5) in place.
Install the remainder of rocker arms (4), springs (7), and brackets (6). Push rocker arm (4) to the left of the hole on the shaft. Install the other bracket assembly (5). Ensure that the dowel hole in bracket assembly (5) is in alignment with the hole on the shaft.
Install dowel (1) through bracket assembly (5) and into the hole in the shaft.

The dowel (11) must be installed so that Dimension (X) is 12.7 1.0 mm (0.50 0.04 inch).

Install the last rocker arm (4), original washer (2), retainer (3), and dowel (1).

Use Tooling (B) to check the clearance between the rocker arm and the washers. Add or subtract washers until the clearance is 0.30 to 1.40 mm (0.012 to 0.055 inch). Check the clearance at the other end of the rocker arm assembly. End By:
Install the rocker shaft and the pushrod. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Rocker Shaft and Push Rod - Install".
