The 165-9296 Lip Type Seal installed in the cylinder head of the bucket cylinder and the stick cylinder can move out of the cylinder head seal groove, allowing dust to enter inside the cylinder. The parts cleaner formerly used to wash the cylinder head prior to assembly left a film on the surface of the seal groove that was not compatible with the retaining compound used to lock the lip type seal into place. The parts cleaner now used to wash the cylinder head evaporates completely, leaving no film on the surface of the seal groove.Solution
If the 165-9296 Lip Type Seal has moved out of the cylinder head seal groove, the seal kit will need replaced. Replace the seal kit with the same seal kit part number. Use a 370-1866 Seal Kit for a 365-3312 Stick Cylinder Gp . Use a 370-1869 Seal Kit for a 361-2862 Bucket Cylinder Gp . Refer to Illustration 2 for typical examples of lip type seal failures.
