Personal injury or death can result from improper lifting or blocking.When a hoist or jack is used to lift any part or component, stand clear of the area. Be sure the hoist or jack has the correct capacity to lift a component. Install blocks or stands before performance of any work under a heavy component.Approximate weights of the components are shown. Clean all surfaces where parts are to be installed.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Clean both mating surfaces of the planetary assembly and the fixed axle. Apply a continuous bead of Tooling (A) around the bolt holes and the mating surface of the fixed axle. Install brake plate (6) to the fixed axle.

Install planetary assembly (5) to the fixed axle with a suitable lifting device. Weight of the planetary assembly is 86 kg (190 lb).

Use a suitable lifting device to support the planetary assembly. Install ten bolts (5) and purging screw (4). Tighten the bolts to a torque of 190 N m (140 lb ft). Tighten the purging screw to a torque of 10 N m (89 lb in).
Install the tire and rim. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Tire and Rim - Remove and Install".

Connect line (2) to the planetary assembly.

Install magnetic plug (1) to the fixed axle. Tighten the magnetic plug to a torque of 60 N m (44 lb ft).
Refill the axle housing with gear oil. The capacity of the axle housing is 8 L (2.1 US gal). Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU7208 for the correct procedure.
Repeat Step 1 through Step 7 for the other side of the planetary assembly.End By: Separate the steering frame lock. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock - Separate and Connect".
