Information:

Which Generate This Code:This diagnostic code is present if the machine ECM stops providing positioning information from the position sensor that is located on the stick.Note: If a MID fault is present for any of the sensors, troubleshoot those faults first. Recheck the system in order to determine if this diagnostic code is still active. This diagnostic code will be active if any of the following conditions are present:
A sensor has failed.
A sensor is not installed.
The wiring for the sensor is disconnected.
The wiring for the sensor has failed.
The ECM has failed. This is unlikely.Test Step 1. VERIFY THE SYSTEM SETUP
Verify that the machine is configured properly.
Ensure that all of the sensors and harnesses are connected to the system.Expected Result:The system is configured and all of the sensors are connected. Results:
YES - The system is configured and all of the sensors are connected. Proceed to Test Step 2.
NO - The system is not configured or all of the sensors are not connected.Repair: The fault will also be present if any of the sensors are not present. Connect the harnesses for all of the components and configure the system. Proceed to Test Step 3.Test Step 2. CHECK THE VOLTAGE AT THE SENSOR
Remove the electrical connector from the suspect sensor.
Turn the key start switch to the "ON" position.
Check for machine voltage at the connector contacts. Refer to the Electrical Schematic for the locations of the electrical pins.Expected Result:The voltage is approximately machine voltage. Results:
YES - The voltage measurement is approximately machine voltage. Proceed to Test Step 3.
NO - The voltage is not machine voltage.Repair: Use the Electrical Schematic for the system in order to check the power circuit. The code could be caused by the following:
Fuse
Associated Harness
The ECM has failed. This is unlikely.STOPTest Step 3. CHECK IF THE DIAGNOSTIC CODE REMAINS
Reconnect all of the connections for the harnesses.
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the "ON" position.
Move the "Power/Setup" switch on the display to the "ON" position.Expected Result:The diagnostic code is no longer active. Results:
YES - The diagnostic code is no longer active. The initial diagnostic code was probably caused by a poor electrical connection and/or a short at one of the harness connectors that was disconnected and then reconnected.Repair: Resume normal machine operation.STOP
NO - The diagnostic code is still active.Repair: Contact your Technical Communicator for a possible consultation with Caterpillar.STOP
