Removal Procedure
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Drain the coolant from the transmission oil cooler into a suitable container for storage or disposal.

Remove six bolts (1) and six bolts (5).
Remove transmission oil cooler bonnet (2), the gaskets, and the seal on the adapter.
Remove four bolts (3). Remove tube assembly (4) and the O-ring seals.
Attach a strap and a suitable lifting device to the transmission oil cooler.
Remove six bolts (7) and remove transmission oil cooler (6) and the gasket. The transmission oil cooler weighs 34 kg (75 lb).

Carefully clean the tube bundles in the transmission oil cooler. Use a rod with a 3.2 mm (.13 inch) diameter. Installation Procedure

Note: Check the condition of the gaskets and the O-rings. If the gaskets or the O-rings are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement.

Attach a strap and a suitable lifting device to the transmission oil cooler. The transmission oil cooler weighs 34 kg (75 lb).
Put transmission oil cooler (6) in position and install the gasket on the transmission oil cooler. Install six bolts (7).
Install the seal on the adapter of transmission oil cooler bonnet (2). Put the transmission oil cooler bonnet and the gaskets in place. Lightly lubricate the bore and the seal with clean engine oil.
Install six bolts (1). Install six bolts (5).
Tighten bolts (5) to a torque of 55 7 N m (41 5 lb ft).
Install tube assembly (4), the O-ring seals, and four bolts (3).
Fill the engine to the correct level with coolant. See the Operation and Maintenance Manual for instructions on filling the engine with coolant.
