Shut Off Switches
Oil Pressure Switch
Shuts off engine due to insufficient engine oil pressure. The oil pressure reset button must be held IN during starting.Water Temperature Switch
Shuts off engine due to high engine water temperature.Overspeed Switch
Protects the engine from overspeeding. When an overspeed occurs, and the engine is stopped, the switch must be reset before engine can be started.Gas Shut Off Valve
An automatic gas shut off valve is available. The valve closes to stop the flow of gas to the engine. This valve must be reset manually.Manual Stop Button
Push to stop the engine.
The manual STOP BUTTON should be used in an emergency situation only.
Unburned gas left in the manifold can ignite when the engine is restarted.
Before restarting any gas engine which was stopped by grounding the magneto, crank the engine with the gas valve turned off, and the magneto grounded, for 10-15 seconds. This will clear the unburned gas from the exhaust system.Shut Off System
A shut-off system, which does not work in conjunction with the gauges, is available. The system stops the engine if the oil pressure or water temperature exceed safe operating limits. The overspeed shut-off switch can be used with this system.Shut Off Switch Testing
Shut-off switches function only when an abnormal condition exists. Because the shut-offs operate only in time of a mechanical emergency, it is impossible to tell if they are in good working order through normal operation. It is important they are in working order. Have them checked periodically by your Caterpillar dealer.Alarm Switches
Alarm switches are available to notify the operator that a fault condition exists. If oil pressure drops to a dangerous level or water temperature reaches a high level an alarm is activated.Engine Shutdown
When an engine has been shut down by its protective circuit, under no circumstances should the engine be put back into service without determining the cause of shutdown.Governor Controls
