Remove the electronic control module.
Remove the oil filter housing.
Remove the crankshaft front seal and the wear sleeve.
Remove accessory drive (front).
Remove the engine oil and water pump drive.
Remove the auxiliary water pump.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

Remove bolts and cover (1) from the front drive housing. Remove the O-ring seal from the cover.

Remove the bolts that hold shaft (2) in the front drive housing. Use Tool (A) to remove the shaft. Remove the O-ring seal from the shaft.

Remove the bolts that hold shaft (3) in the front drive housing. Use Tool (A) to remove the shaft, the idler gear, and the washer. Remove the O-ring seal from the shaft.
Use Tool (C) and a press to remove the bearing from the idler gear, if necessary.

Typical example
Install Tool (B) into front drive housing (4). Attach a suitable lifting device to Tool (B). The weight of the front drive housing is approximately 209 kg (460 lb).
Remove two bolts and install two 3/8-16 NC guide bolts (4). Remove the rest of the bolts that hold the front drive housing to the cylinder block.
Slowly move the front drive housing toward the ends of the guide bolts. Do not remove the housing yet.

Disconnect connector (6) for the sensor for torsional vibration that is above the crankshaft.
Remove the front drive housing. Remove the gasket from the joint between the housing and the cylinder block. Installation Procedure

Install a new gasket for the front drive housing onto the cylinder block.

Install two 5/8-11 NC guide bolts (5) into the cylinder block.
Install Tool (B) into front drive housing (4). Attach a suitable lifting device to Tool (B). The weight of the front drive housing is approximately 209 kg (460 lb).
Position front drive housing (4) onto the ends of guide bolts (5).

Connect connector (6) for the sensor for torsional vibration that is above the crankshaft. Make sure that the connection is secure.
Move the front drive housing against the cylinder block. Install the bolts that attach the front drive housing to the cylinder block. Tighten the bolts evenly. Cut any excess gasket from the face of the cylinder block.
Remove guide bolts (5). Install the remaining two bolts.

If the bearing was removed from gear (6), use Tool (B) to install the bearing. After the bearing is installed, measure the bore of the bearing. The bore of the bearing must be 90 0.06 mm (3.543 0.002 inch).
Install O-ring seal (8) on shaft (3). Coat the O-ring seal with clean engine
