Diassemble Air Intake Shutoff (3516)
1. Turn knob (1) until plate assembly (3) is in the "OPEN" position.2. Remove four bolts (2), spacers (4) and plate assembly (3) from the shaft assembly. Do not remove the rubber seal from the plate. 3. Pull lever assembly (5) toward the hole opening. Knob (1) will turn to the "CLOSED" position. 4. Remove bolt (8), knob (1), four bolts (6), cover assembly (7) and the cover gasket. 5. Remove lip-type seal (9) from cover (7). 6. Remove shaft assembly (10) from the housing assembly.7. Remove bolt (12), the washer on each side of lever assembly (5), lever assembly (5) and spring (11). 8. A washer (16), spring (14) and latch (13) are held in position on shaft (15) with a dowel. The dowel has been staked, and the latch must be drilled out to remove the dowels. 9. Remove sleeve (18) from lever (5). If necessary, remove two bushings (17) from lever (5). 10. If necessary, remove inner bushing (19) from the housing. 11. To remove the outer bushing from the housing, remove plug (20).Assemble Air Intake Shutoff (3516)
1. Lower the temperature of bushings (1). Install bushings (1) in the housing with tooling (A). The bushings are installed 0.35 0.15 mm (.014 .006 in.) below the machined housing bore.2. Install a new plug with tooling (A). The plug is installed to a depth of 1.25 0.25 mm (.050 .010 in.). 3. Install bushings (4) with tooling (A) to a depth of 0.80 0.30 mm (.031 .012 in.) below the end of each surface.4. Install sleeve (3) in lever assembly (2). 5. Put spring (5) in position, and install lever assembly (2). There is a washer on each side of the lever assembly.
If any component on shaft assembly (6) has been replaced, be sure the dowel has been staked on both ends in latch (7). Failure to do so can result in an air intake shutoff malfunction. Possible engine damage can be the result.
6. Install shaft assembly (6) in the housing. Be sure spring (8) is in alignment with hole (X). 7. Install lip-type seal (9) in cover (10) with tooling (A). The lip of the seal is installed toward the inside of the housing. Put clean engine oil on the lip of the seal. 8. Put gasket (11) and cover (10) in position. Install the bolts that hold them. Put the knob in position on the shaft, and install the bolt that holds it. 9. Put plate assembly (12) in position on the shaft assembly, and install the four bolts and spacers that hold the plate assembly to the shaft assembly. 10. With the plate assembly in the "CLOSED" position, a 0.80 mm (.031 in.) feeler gauge must not pass between the plate assembly and the housing bore at any position.
