Component Code: 1410SUBJECT: All 2400, 2600, 2800, and 2900 Frame Generators that utilize the 135-3393 Voltage Regulator Assembly or the 211-4890 Voltage Regulator Assembly (DECS-125-15 or DECS-63-15 Voltage Regulators)
PROBLEM:
A trend of early-hour failure(s) of the 135-3393 Voltage Regulator Assembly and the 211-4890 Voltage Regulator Assembly has been identified. This issue has been investigated. The results of the investigation show that the early hour failures can be attributed to improper set-up or improper programming during field installation.
SOLUTION:
In an effort to reduce the number of early hour failures, the following preliminary set-up information is provided. The intent of this information is to provide supplemental initial set-up information and initial control parameters for the DECS-15 Voltage Regulator. This information does not replace the instruction information that is contained in the supplied Basler DECS-15 Voltage Regulator Instruction Manual. Refer to the Basler DECS-15 Voltage Regulator Instruction Manual throughout this document.
Preliminary Set-Up Information
Tag and disconnect all wiring to the DECS-15 Voltage Regulator. To prevent a short from occurring, be sure to insulate the exposed wire terminals.
Start the engine. Perform all of the necessary governor adjustments.
After completion of the initial governor adjustments, shut down the engine.
Set the "starting reference" point for the voltage regulator.
Note: In order to set the "starting reference" point for the voltage regulator, the DECS-15 Voltage Regulator must be set to "Droop Mode Active". Set the DECS-15 to "Droop Mode Active" by closing the 52 J-K contacts and leaving the 52 L-M contacts open. Utilize a temporary jumper to "close" the 52 J-K contacts.
Connect the DECS Power Module?s power input leads to the auxiliary AC power source. Energize the DECS-15 Voltage Regulator.
Note: The DECS-63-15 utilizes 120 VAC. The DECS-125-15 utilizes 240 VAC, 50/60 hz, 1.0 Amp.
Ensure that there are no other wires connected to the DECS-15 at this time.
In accordance with the instructions specified in the Basler DECS-15 Instruction Manual, install the DECS Windows Software on your PC.
Note: PC must be IBM compatible, 486DX2 or faster.
Use a DECS Communication Interface Module (DCIM) to connect the DECS-15 to your PC (via the RS-232 serial ports). Establish communications with the DECS-15. Refer to the Basler DECS-15 Voltage Regulator Instruction Manual.
Perform all initial adjustments and system parameter settings as described in the DECS-15 Voltage Regulator Instruction Manual.
Perform the following procedure to set the Control Gain parameters.
Set the Stability Range (SR) value to 20.
The PID Button will become Active. Select the PID Button by clicking on it.
Confirm the Generator Frequency Value.
Set the Generator Time Constant. Refer to the value specified in TMI regarding the specific generator you are utilizing. The TMI value you are to use is the "Open Circuit Transient" value.
Set the Exciter Time Constant to a value of 0.15.
Select the "Update Gains" Button.
Select the "Done" Button. The modified PID numbers will be shown on the Current Screen. When
