Hot engine components can cause injury from burns. Before performing maintenance on the engine, allow the engine and the components to cool.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: Put identification marks on all hoses, on all hose assemblies on all wires, and on all tube assemblies for installation purposes. Plug all hose assemblies and plug all tube assemblies. This helps prevent fluid loss, and this helps keep contaminants from entering the system.
Drain oil from the engine crankcase. The capacity of the engine crankcase is 27 L (7 US gal).

Remove tube assembly (1). Remove the gasket from the turbocharger.
Use Tooling (A) in order to remove oil filter (3) from oil filter base (2) .

Remove four bolts (4) that hold oil filter base (2) to the oil cooler.

Disconnect tube assembly (5). Remove gasket (6) .

Disconnect tube assembly (7). Remove the oil filter base and remove gasket (8) .
