Start By:a. remove rear wheel brakes **This operation is found in the Disassembly & Assembly, 769D Truck & 771D Quarry Truck Machine Systems module, SENR1422. Fluid Spillage ContainmentCare must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to "Tools And Shop Product Guide, NENG2500", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose fluids according to local regulations and mandates.1. Drain the oil from the differential case. Drain the oil into a suitable container for storage or disposal. The capacity of the differential case is approximately 57 liters (15 U.S. gal). 2. Remove four bolts to disconnect brake oil cooler inlet line (3) and outlet line (1) from the axle housing. Cap and plug all openings immediately. Put identification marks on two brake lines (2). Remove them from the axle housing. 3. Install Tool (A). Fasten a hoist to axle housing (4) as shown.
Typical Example4. Remove nuts (5) and the washers that fasten the axle housing to the differential housing. Remove the axle housing from the differential housing. The weight of the axle housing is 372 kg (816 lb).5. Inspect the condition of the O-ring seal between the axle housing and differential housing, and make a replacement if necessary. The following steps are for the installation of the rear axle housings. Bolts (6) and (7) for the rear wheel brakes must be in position in the axle housing when the axle housing is installed.6. Put the axle housing in position on the differential housing.7. Put 4C-5593 Anti-Seize Compound on the threads of nuts (5) and washer faces that fasten the axle housing to the differential housing. Install the nuts and washers. Tighten the nuts to a torque of 715 25 N m (525 20 lb ft).8. Install two brake lines (2) on the axle housing. Install brake oil cooler inlet line (3) and outlet line (1) with four bolts.9. Fill the differential housing with oil to the correct level.
