All Electronic Control Groups with Relay ModulesIntroduction
This special instruction provides the necessary information for replacing the relay module in electronic control groups.A small packet of desiccant is located inside the electronic control under the relay module. This desiccant should be replaced whenever the relay module is replaced. A replacement packet of desiccant, sealed in foil, is provided with the relay module kit along with the tape to install the packet. Do not expose the desiccant packet to the environment any longer than necessary. In extremely humid conditions, exposure time should be limited to approximately 20 minutes.A packet of desiccant that has been open to the environment and has absorbed moisture can be dried and reactivated by heating the desiccant for 16 hours at 100-115°C (212-240°F). The desiccant must be removed from the control before heating. Do not perform any procedure, outlined in this publication, or order any parts until you read and understand the information contained within.Necessary Parts (Use Relay Control Group As Required)
Instructions For Replacing Module
Terminal strip jumpers and wires shown in Illustration may vary depending on part number of control group.1. Check to be sure that replacement parts are available and ready to be installed.2. Disconnect the power from the control by removing the lead from the battery itself or open the disconnect switch.3. Identify and disconnect wires from the relay module.4. Remove fuses, mounting fasteners and relay module (1). The mounting screws, washers, and fuses will be reused. Use care when disconnecting the ribbon cable from the relay module internal connector. Also, if a spring retainer clip is used, it must be reinstalled on the connector. 5. Check small jumper connector, J2, (5) on relay module pc board (near ribbon connector) to make sure original and replacement jumpers are connected to the same pins.6. Remove desiccant packet that is taped to the wall of the relay module cavity.7. Remove the new desiccant packet (2) from the foil envelope. Use new tape (3) to install the new packet in the same location as the original.
Any change in location or orientation could cause interference and prevent proper seating of the O-ring. Limit exposure time of the desiccant as described in the "Introduction" section.
8. With the new O-ring seal (4) properly placed in its groove, install the replacement relay module, making sure the ribbon cable is plugged in and spring clip installed (if provided). Tighten screws to 1.70 0.25 N m (15 2 lb in).9. Reconnect wires to the module.
