Put the thrust washer (1) in position on the dowels in the front housing. The thickness of the new thrust washer is 0.945 0.050 mm (0.0372 0.0020 inch).

Note: The idler bearing in the illustration shows a groove for an internal oil supply. The new idler bearings do not have a groove for an internal oil supply.
If the bearing (2) was removed, use Tool (A) in order to install the bearing in the gear (3). Install the bearing until the dimension (X) is 2.5 0.5 mm (0.098 0.020 inch). The inside diameter of the bearing should be 69.987 0.040 mm (2.7554 0.0016 inch) after installation.

Install the O-ring seals (5) on the shaft (4). Put clean engine oil on the O-ring seals.
Illustration 4 g00561506Note: The idler gears on each side are different. The gears must be installed on the correct side in order to get the correct engagement with the crankshaft gear.
Put clean engine oil on the bearing in the gear (3).
Put the gear (3) in position with the large shoulder of the gear in front. Install the shaft (4).
Install the bolts (6) that hold the shaft (4) in place.

Use Tool (B) in order to check the backlash between the crankshaft gear and the idler gear (3). The backlash should be 0.051 to 0.533 mm (0.0020 to 0.0209 inch).
Use Tool (B) in order to check the end play of the gear (3). The end play should be 0.25 to 0.85 mm (0.010 to 0.033 inch). End By:
Install the oil pump.
Install the water pumps.
