Start By:
Remove the oscillating axle. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Oscillating Axle (Rear) - Remove and Install".
Remove the fixed axle. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fixed Axle (Front) - Remove and Install".Note: Make sure that the intermediate housing of the differential is positioned on the top when you locate the axle assembly in Tooling (A) .
Remove the service brake from the intermediate housing. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Service Brakes- Remove and Install".
Remove the axle oil cooler from the intermediate housing. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Heat Exchanger (Axle Oil Cooler) - Remove and Install".

Remove bolt (2) and lock washer (4) .Note: Adjusting nuts of two different sizes are used in the bevel gear group. Use Tooling (F) or Tooling (G) to remove the adjusting nuts.
Use Tooling (F) or Tooling (G) to remove the adjusting nut (3) .
Remove locating pin (4A), sleeve assembly (5) and bearing cup (6) from intermediate housing (1) .

Remove two bolts (7) that are directly opposite each other. Install Tooling (H) in the bolt holes.
Remove remaining bolts (7). Slide pinion gear assembly (8) away from the differential housing in order to install Tooling (B). Attach a suitable lifting device to pinion gear assembly (8) .
Use the suitable lifting device to remove pinion gear assembly (8). The weight of the pinion gear assembly is approximately 66 kg (145 lb).
Remove the shims and the O-ring seal from the pinion assembly.

Install Tooling (C) on differential assembly (9). Attach a suitable lifting device to Tooling (C) .
Use a suitable lifting device to remove differential assembly (9). The weight of the differential assembly is approximately 109 kg (240 lb).

Turn the remainder of the axle assembly onto the opposite side. Fasten the differential housing to Tooling (A) .
Install Tooling (C) to the rim of axle housing assembly (11). Attach a suitable lifting device to Tooling (C) .
Remove bolts (10). Use the suitable lifting device to remove axle housing (11). The weight of the axle housing assembly is approximately 365 kg (800 lb).
Remove the service brake from the differential housing. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Service Brakes - Remove and Install".

Use Tooling (F) or Tooling (G) to remove the adjusting nut (14) .
Remove locating pin (15), sleeve assembly (16), and bearing cup (17) from differential housing (18) .

Use Tooling (D) to remove bearing cone (19) .
Turn the differential onto the opposite side. Use Tooling (E) to remove bearing cone (22) .
Remove bolts (20) that hold bevel gear (21) in position. Use a press to remove bevel gear (21) from the differential.
Remove the oscillating axle. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Oscillating Axle (Rear) - Remove and Install".
Remove the fixed axle. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fixed Axle (Front) - Remove and Install".Note: Make sure that the intermediate housing of the differential is positioned on the top when you locate the axle assembly in Tooling (A) .
Remove the service brake from the intermediate housing. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Service Brakes- Remove and Install".
