Removal Procedure
Start By:
Separate the tractor and the scraper. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Tractor and Scraper - Separate". The information is in this manual.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Make sure that two 4C-6486 Stands are securely placed under the draft frame before removing the draft frame from the scraper bowl.
Put identification marks on all lines, hoses, wires, and tubes for installation purposes. Plug all lines, hoses and tubes. This helps prevent fluid loss and contamination of the oil system.

Loosen retaining nut (1) and disconnect hose (2) . Loosen retaining nut (3) and disconnect hose (4) . Loosen retaining nut (5) and disconnect hose (6) .

Loosen retaining nut (7) and disconnect hose (8) . Loosen retaining nut (9) and disconnect hose (10) .

Remove two bolts (11) and hose support bracket (12) from bracket (13) . Remove two bolts (14) and the clips from the draft frame.

Remove bolt (15) and the clip from the draft frame. Remove two bolts (16) and light (17) from the draft frame.

Remove two nuts (18) from the hose support bracket. Loosen retaining nut (19) and disconnect hose (20) . Loosen retaining nut (21) and disconnect hose (22) . Loosen retaining nut (23) and disconnect hose (24) .

Attach a nylon lifting strap and a hoist to bowl cylinder (25) . Remove two bolts (26) and bracket (27) from the draft frame. Remove pin (28) from the draft frame and lower bowl cylinder (25) to the ground. Repeat this procedure for the other bowl cylinder.

Attach three nylon lifting straps, lifting chain and a hoist to the draft frame.

Remove two bolts (29) , bracket (30) and pin (31) from the draft frame. Repeat this procedure for the other side. Remove the draft frame from the scraper. The draft frame weighs 1200 kg (2645 lb) .
