Remove the engine, the torque converter, the transmission and the transfer gears. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine, Torque Converter, Transmission and Output Transfer Gears- Remove".
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: Put identification marks on all lines, on all hoses, on all wires and on all tubes for installation purposes. Plug all lines, all hoses and all tubes. This will help to prevent fluid loss and this will help to prevent contaminants from entering the system.

Temporarily place the engine, the torque converter, the transmission and the transfer gears on Tooling (A). The combined weight of the engine, of the torque converter, of the transmission and of the transfer gears is approximately 2315 kg (5100 lb).
Remove tube assemblies (1) and (2) .

Place the engine, the torque converter, the transmission and the transfer gears on Tooling (B), as shown. Place cribbing under the transfer gears, as shown.

Attach Tooling (C) to the torque converter. Attach a hoist to Tooling (C) and to the transfer gears, as shown.

Remove twelve bolts (3). Use the hoist to separate the engine from the torque converter. The weight of the transmission, torque converter, and transfer gears is 1045 kg (2300 lb).
The engine remains on Tooling (B) .Note: Carefully place the transmission, the torque converter, and the transfer gears in the upright position.
