The relief valves are seated by pressure oil. The relief valves open when the piston bottoms in the cylinder, either at extreme lift or lower. This allows the oil on the pressure side of the piston to pass through the piston and be returned to the tank.Make-up Valves
The lift circuit make-up valve housing is mounted to the control valve body. The make-up valves will unseat and allow oil from the tank to supplement pump flow when the piston rods extend or retract faster than the pump can supply oil to the cylinders.Pressure Relief Valve
The pressure relief valve is mounted to the control valve body. The valve limits the pressure that can be imposed on the hydraulic pump. It also protects the lift circuit in operation. This valve consists of a spring-loaded dump valve and a spring-loaded pilot valve.When system pressure exceeds the pressure relief valve setting, the pressure unseats the pilot valve. This allows oil to flow through the orifice to the tank. The pressure oil forces the dump valve to compress its spring. This allows pump flow to pass by the dump valve and return to the tank.
