3. Disconnect air line (3). Put a mark on line for identification.4. Disconnect air line (2). Put a mark on line for identification.5. Remove two bolts and lockwashers and clamp (not shown) that hold brake valve (1) to steering column. Remove the valve.6. Put valve (1) in position on steering column.7. Install clamp, lockwashers and two bolts (not shown) that holds the valve to the steering column.8. Connect air line (2) from air tank.9. Connect air line (3) from relay valve.Disassemble Hand-Operated Extended Braking Control Valve
start by:a) remove hand-operated extended braking valve1. Disassembly and assembly of emergency brake control valve is typical of hand-operated extended braking control valve. 2. Remove setscrew (2) and lever (1) from valve (3). 3. Remove two screws (4) and valve assembly (5). Remove O-ring (not shown) from the valve assembly. Service can be done on assembly only, not on individual parts. 4. Remove two screws (6) that hold the cover assembly to the body. 5. Turn the valve as shown and remove cover assembly (7) from body (8). Check gasket for damage. If damaged, use new part for replacement. 6. Remove cam (13) and follower (12) from cover (11). Check lobes on the cam and the follower for above normal wear. Be sure to make a note of the approximate location of adjusting ring for installation.7. Remove lockring (9) and adjusting ring (10) from the cover. 8. Remove spring (15) and piston (14). Remove O-ring seal (not shown) from the piston and spring (not shown) from the body.9. Check all O-ring seals for damage. If damaged, use new parts for replacement.Assemble Hand-Operated Extended Brake Valve
1. Make sure all of the parts are clean and free of dirt and foreign material. 2. Install O-ring seal (2) on piston (3). Install spring (4), the piston and spring (1) in body (5). 3. Install adjusting ring (7) to approximately the same position as it was when removed. Install lockring (6) in cover (8). Make sure lockring fits in groove. Put silicone grease on cam and follower and install in cover. 4. Install gasket (10) and cover assembly (9) on valve body (5). 5. Install two screws (13) that hold the cover assembly to the valve body.6. Install O-ring seal (12) on valve assembly (11). Install the valve assembly in the valve body and install two screws (not shown). 7. Install lever (14) on the valve. Install the set-screw.Performance Check Of Hand-Operated Extended Braking Control Valve
1. This is a typical example for emergency brake control valve. 2. Install an 8M2744 Gauge (3) by use of correct fittings in air delivery line.3. Charge air system to 115 psi (8.1 kg/cm2) (795 kPa).4. Move control handle (1) of control valve (2) to "FULL APPLIED" position and check pressure reading on gauge. If reading is above or below 80 psi (38.7 kg/cm2) (550 kPa), adjustment is necessary.Adjust Hand-Operated Extended Braking Control Valve
