A 8S-1378 Stud Remover and Resetter Tool 1 Start By:
Remove the fan drive. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fan Drive - Remove".
Remove the unit injector hydraulic pump. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Unit Injector Hydraulic Pump - Remove".
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Disconnect three hose assemblies (1) from tee (2).
Disconnect temperature sensor (3) at the electrical connection. Disconnect atmospheric pressure sensor (4) at the electrical connection.

Put identification on bolts (6) for installation purposes. Remove ten bolts (6), the two full nuts, and fuel pump gear cover (5) from the engine.
If necessary, use Tooling (A) (not shown) in order to remove stud (11) from the engine. If necessary, use Tooling (A) in order to remove the taperlock stud from fuel pump gear cover (5).
Remove gasket (7) from the engine. Remove four twelve point head bolts (10), retaining plate (9), and pump idler gear (8) from the engine.

Disconnect the harness assemblies from two speed sensors (13). Remove two speed sensors (13) from the timing gear housing.
Remove four twelve point head bolts (14), pin (15), and the O-ring seal.
Remove unit injector hydraulic pump drive (12) from the engine.

Remove two O-ring seals (16) and O-ring seal (17) from unit injector hydraulic pump drive (12).
